A Merry Time at Plumstead Make Merry

I’d heard of The Plumstead Make Merry Community Festival always missed! This year however I was determined not to miss it, the twitter reminders helped (ohhhh how I love thee Twitter!)

It was a great day for a festival, the sun was shining and weather was, uhmmm sweet.

The Plumstead Make Merry Festival is a great event run entirely by volunteers and it really does bring people together. It was so nice to see all the local charities and initiatives as well as hear some great music and watch talented young dancers. I picked up some great bargains, knowing that all my money was going to a great cause.

But of course what I loved the most was food.

Isn’t it funny how when you discover something new, that you really like you suddenly see it everywhere. I had Venezuelan food not too long ago so it was great to see the Guasacaca London stall. I didn’t have a chance to taste some Arepas but they looked great!

I love my hot sauces, chutneys and jams so it was great to discover All Things Saucy, we bought some Green Chilli and Lime Jam which isn’t lasting very long…it’s so good you’d be forgiven to wanting to drink it!

It was absolutely DELICIOUS!  Everything about it was correct and of course the rice and peas and salad went with it perfectly. I’m still thinking about it!!!

Who’s For Dinner with Dr Maya Angelou?

Dr. Maya Angelou was simply an amazing woman; an author, poet, singer, a philanthropist, teacher and so much more! She lived her life fully.

Embracing each new opportunity with a zest for life and genuine enthusiasm. She was an inspiration to so many. I loved her work and I’m pretty certain that I’ll love her food too.

Few people know that she also had such a great love of food that she wrote cookbooks too! She did it all without apology. Lived a life of rich tapestries, just as life should be lived.

Hallelujah! The Welcome Table” and “Great Food, All Day Long” are full of recipes which reflect Maya Angelou’s many life experiences and travels around the world. I’ve added both to my wishlist. Her message of love lives on through her writing and through her recipes.
