Wild and Game aims to bring great British game to a wider audience

To me game meat has always been associated with country living and to some even quite elite living however game meat offers a more dynamic, wide selection of tastes for meat lovers like myself.  When Wild and Game sent me a range of sausages and pies to review I was excited, I have always found game meat to have richer depth of flavour than the usual mainstream meat counterparts like beef, lamb and chicken.

Wild and Game is a not-for-profit food business which aims to turn the UK into a nation of year-round game eaters by taking much-loved recipes and recreating them with game as a key ingredient. Their product range is quite wide and includes pies, sausage rolls, sausages and even raw game meat with more products in development including pheasant lasagne, burgers and pate, and game ready meals. Their products low fat, free range and are supplied frozen so that they can be made available all year round, not just in game season.

“We would love to see game such as pheasant eventually becoming a common sight in UK supermarkets.” – says Steven Frampton, who runs the business with Michael Cannon.  “We’re not doing this for profit, but because we genuinely want to put game more fully  on the nation’s menus. The business grew out of trying to find ways to make game more attractive to people by putting it into products that they already know and love. We want to make it as easy as possible for people to buy and eat game.”

Well it certainly worked for me. The pies and sausages are packed full of flavour and make a great alternative to standard meat products. I really enjoyed the steak and ale pie.

I made a delicious sausage casserole with the pheasant and venison and pheasant and white wine sausages too.

Juicy and flavourful these are excellent sausages! I shall definitely be keeping game meat on my home menu from here on out.
