When I was sent a box of The Yushoi Snapea rice snack selection as a gift to review, I was excited. I had only sampled the lightly salted flavour before and so I was keen to try the full range. Yushoi Snapea rice sticks are available in four flavours Sweet Chilli & Lemon, Soy & Balsamic Vinegar, Smoked Salt & Szechuan Pepper and Lightly Salted.
Yushoi Snapea Rice Sticks are made with mainly green pea and rice by a British Based company with a Japanese influence. I actually thought that they were Japanese when I first tried them which is a great sign as it shows great attention to detail and a genuine passion for that style of food. The snack itself is unusual and unique in every aspect, from the texture to the colour of each rice stick. It actually tastes more like a type of corn puff/corn chip than potato crisp and most definitely tastes healthier than most crisps on the market.
Of the 4 flavours that I tried, I have to say that Sweet Chilli & Lemon and Soy & Balsamic Vinegar were my 2 favourites. The sweet chilli could have had more of a kick but I am some what of a chilli fiend and I also would have loved more of a vinegar sharpness (I tend to drown my chips in vinegar on the rare occasion that I do have fish and chips). Smoked Salt & Szechuan Pepper and the Lightly Salted were good but once I tried the more pronounced flavours I would say they are blander in comparison but then I am a lover of memorable, bold flavours. I really enjoyed eating the sticks with a glass of rose wine and some olives as an accompaniment, they are light enough to eat with other snacks or even with lunch. The sticks are crunchy and wholesome with no over-powering after tastes or smells which I appreciated and signified that they weren’t packed with artificial flavourings. They are exceptionally moreish too which is always a good sign for a great quality snack in my opinion, thankfully these are healthy.
Yushoi Snapea Rice Sticks are baked, free from nuts and dairy, suitable for vegetarians and vegans, high in protein and fibre and have no artificial colours, flavourings or MSG and there are less than 99 calories per bag. So basically they are the perfect guilt-free snack, the only thing you could even consider feeling guilty about is the fact that you’re not eating them in Japan…but you shouldn’t because they are proudly British Made!!!
I would definitely recommend these Snapea Rice Sticks, particularly if you are looking for something new to try as part of your snack time.
